Religion

Religion - Our program is aligned with our school mission and belief statements and helps to develop the spiritual, academic, and social growth of each student. The religion program includes the study of Catholic doctrine and traditions, scripture, social justice, participation in prayer, and liturgical worship experiences, instruction in and reception of the sacraments and service to others. Besides a formal daily religion class; religion, faith, and prayer are a part of all classes.

Each Wednesday we join our parish at the 9:00 am Mass. Our students in grades 4-8 are responsible for the readings, responsorial psalm, prayers of the faithful, and bringing up the gifts. Students from grades Kindergarten - 4 meet on Tuesday afternoons to practice the songs for the Mass and lead us in singing. We also gather as a community to celebrate Holy Days of Obligation, May Crowning, St. Joseph’s Table, Thanksgiving Feast, Catholic Schools Week, Feast of St. Francis (Blessing of the Pets), Stations of the Cross, and Reconciliation Services.

A conscious effort is made to create a Christ-centered atmosphere by stressing Christian values in the classroom as well as throughout the school. Students are encouraged to practice a Christian attitude at all times. They are active participants in daily prayer, listen respectfully, learn to express themselves using kind and considerate words, and follow Jesus’ model of acceptance and tolerance in their interaction with others. Two programs used in the classrooms are No Put Downs and S.A.V.E. (Students Against Violence Education).
