English/Language Arts - Through the use of Houghton Mifflin (text) Grades 1-5 and Prentice Hall (Grades 6-8) students are guided to develop the skills to become avid readers and writers. The language arts program is integrated with the reading program and is designed as a tool for improving students’ competence in writing and speaking and to enhance learning in all subject areas. Skill areas taught include: reading, grammar, writing, handwriting, phonics, vocabulary, spelling, listening, and public speaking.
